What is Travatan?

Travatan (travoprost) is prescribed to lower high pressure in the eye. It also prevents or slows vision loss from glaucoma, particularly open-angle glaucoma, which is the most common form of the disease. High intraocular pressure is the result of poor drainage of aqueous humor, the fluid inside the eye, into the circulatory system. With open-angle glaucoma, the problem is due to a partial blockage of the trabecular meshwork, three layers of spongy connective tissue in the drainage angle formed by the cornea and iris.

Travatan comes in the form of eye drops. The typical dosage is one drop in each eye every evening. It is prescribed for adults and children who are at least 16 years old.

What does Simplefill Provide?

The symptoms of glaucoma are subtle and may not be noticeable until the optic nerve has already been damaged enough to cause some degree of vision loss, which cannot be reversed.  Anyone living with glaucoma is understandably worried about complete vision loss. It’s especially concerning for older adults, as glaucoma is the leading cause of blindness in people over age 60. Glaucoma patients know how important it is for them to have an uninterrupted supply of the medications they take to control intraocular pressure.

However, all too many people can’t afford the high U.S. cost of the prescription medications they need, and Simplefill finds that unacceptable. Nobody should have to risk losing their eyesight because they’re uninsured, underinsured, or simply unable to cover high copays. That’s why we serve as the bridge between those who need prescription assistance and the programs that can provide it.

How does Travatan Work?

Travatan is a synthetic prostaglandin analog.  When absorbed through the cornea, Travatan is metabolized into an acid that stimulates the prostaglandin-F receptor to increase the outflow of aqueous humor into the circulatory system.
