What is Opzelura?

Opzelura (ruxolitinib) is a topical cream used on the skin for short-term and non-continuous chronic treatment of mild to moderate eczema (atopic dermatitis) in non-immunocompromised adults and children 12 years of age and older whose disease is not well controlled with topical prescription therapies or when those therapies are not recommended. Opzelura is also prescribed for the treatment of a type of vitiligo called nonsegmental vitiligo in adults and children 12 years of age and older. It is not known if it is safe and effective in children less than 12 years of age.

The use of Opzelura along with therapeutic biologics, other JAK inhibitors, or strong immunosuppressants such as azathioprine or cyclosporine is not recommended.

What Does Simplefill Provide?

Eczema may not be life-threatening, but can still have a big impact on a patient’s quality of life. The itching, thickened, or cracked skin, and burning sensation caused by severe eczema can make a patient feel miserable, physically and emotionally. Not being able to afford the medication that can provide relief is very frustrating.

No American should miss out on the opportunity for relief from a chronic condition because they can’t afford the medications they need. But a surprising number of people don’t know that patient assistance that lowers prices is available.

Simplefill not only raises awareness of patient assistance programs but also connects people who need such assistance with programs and organizations that can help.

How Does Opzelura work?

Opzelura blocks JAK enzymes and acts as a JAK inhibitor. A JAK inhibitor interferes with signals in the body that are thought to cause inflammation. This, in turn, reduces the inflammation that fuels diseases like eczema, psoriatic arthritis, and vitiligo.

The immune system is the body’s natural defense against infection and other diseases. But sometimes the immune system can become overactive and cause medical problems. By blocking JAK enzymes, JAK inhibitors help to decrease the immune system reaction that can lead to inflammation, pain and other symptoms.

With less inflammation, the immune system calms down. For someone with vitiligo, this may give the skin a chance to re-pigment. A child who has eczema can have noticeably less itching and clearer skin.

How to Get Prescription Assistance

The first step toward getting prescription assistance is to become a Simplefill member. You can do this by applying online or by calling us at (877)386-0206. Within about 24 hours, you’ll be called by one of our patient advocates who will engage you in a brief interview about your needs and circumstances. From that point on, there’s nothing more you need to do.

The information you provide during your conversation with the patient advocate will enable us to construct your Simplefill member profile. We will then use that profile to match your specific situation to available Opzelura assistance programs. We’ll prepare and submit applications to those programs on your behalf. And we’ll get you enrolled when you are accepted.

Long-term, we’ll make sure you continue to keep getting your Opzelura at the lowest cost. We’ll update your member profile when you alert us to a change in your circumstances. And if your health care provider prescribes new medications for you, we’ll look for patient assistance for them as well. We value our members, and we’ll stand by you for as long as you need us.
