What Is Trintellix?

MDD may manifest itself in various ways that put great strain on a patient’s ability to function normally in everyday life. It can negatively affect mood, appetite, sleep patterns, energy, social life, and work.

Trintellix (vortioxetine) is an antidepressant in a family of drugs known as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or SSRIs. This drug is used to treat major depressive disorders (MDD). Trintellix is most often taken once a day with or without food. In most cases, the dosage is increased slowly over time.

What Does Simplefill Provide?

Many people with MDD have to make difficult tradeoffs between paying for the medication they need and paying for basic essentials like food, electricity, and rent. Even people who are insured often find it difficult to cover deductibles and copays. Chronic conditions like MDD are stressful enough without the added strain of worrying about how to pay to fill essential prescriptions.

There are patient assistance programs, however, that offer help in paying for your prescriptions. But many patients aren’t aware of them. At Simplefill, we’ve made it our mission to help our clients find and enroll in assistance programs that can reduce or eliminate the cost of prescriptions for drugs like Trintellix.

How Does Trintellix Work?

As is the case with most SSRIs, the exact effects of Trintellix on the brain are not fully understood. The drug is believed to provide relief from symptoms of depression by acting on the neurotransmitter serotonin and blocking the reuptake process.

In addition to providing relief of other MDD symptoms for most patients, Trintellix has also been shown to improve speed of processing in cognitive function, which may be negatively affected by MDD.

It’s important not to stop taking Trintellix without the doctor’s approval, even if you feel well. Stopping Trintellix abruptly can cause symptoms like mood swings, headaches, and stiff muscles, so your doctor will wean you off the drug by gradually reducing the dose.
