What Is Tresiba?

Tresiba (insulin deguldec) is a long-acting insulin-based medication used to treat adults with type 1 or type 2 diabetes. It was developed specifically to provide a long-acting insulin medication option that can be taken once a day and acts the same way a basal insulin does. Tresiba remains active and effective for up to 40 hours. This is a significant advantage over similar long-acting insulins that remain active for only 18 to 24 hours.

Tresiba is delivered via a small injection under the skin. The Tresiba injector is a small pen-shaped device that uses a very small needle. There are several dosages available, including the 100 mL per unit (FlexTouch-100), 200 mL per unit (Flex-Touch 200) and U-100 multi-dose pre-filled injectors.

What Does Simplefill Provide?

People living with diabetes already experience a great deal of stress related to managing their disease. They certainly don’t need the added stress of not being able to afford a prescription that is essential to maintaining their health.

There are programs available to help you pay for your Tresiba prescription, whether you are uninsured or underinsured. We’ve made it our mission to help you find and enroll in the prescription assistance programs that can allow you to get the medication you need without having to sacrifice other essentials.

How Does Tresiba Work?

Insulin deguldec is unique in its molecular structure, allowing for a steady rate of absorption. It does not kick in until several hours after injection, but it will then continue to work evenly for 24 hours. It is often prescribed in combination with a short-acting insulin that is injected before meals.

Due to its long-acting nature, patients using Tresiba may experience an “overlap” in dosage. A minimum of 8 hours should pass between doses. Individuals should take Tresiba exactly as prescribed by a physician. Tresiba must not be used in conjunction with an insulin pump or during periods of hypoglycemia or ketoacidosis.
