What is Nexium?
Nexium (esomeprazole) is a prescription medication that belongs to a class of drugs known as proton pump inhibitors (PPIs). It’s commonly prescribed to treat conditions related to excess stomach acid, including gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), erosive esophagitis, stomach and duodenal ulcers, Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) Infection. Nexium is also prescribed to prevent gastric ulcers in patients taking nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs.
Nexium comes in Delayed-Release Capsules designed to release the medication in the intestine rather than the stomach. It’s typically taken once daily, at least one hour before meals.
What Does Simplefill Provide?
Conditions like GERD and ulcers can significantly affect a patient’s quality of life due to the physical discomfort and emotional stress from persistent symptoms, sleep disturbances from nighttime acid reflux, and necessary lifestyle changes, such as dietary restrictions. These stress factors can be compounded by the financial burden, as a month’s supply of Nexium can be relatively expensive.
Simplefill aims to relieve the financial stress experienced by patients who are uninsured, underinsured, or simply can’t afford the medications they need. Many simply don’t know that prescription assistance is out there, so our mission is to raise awareness of prescription assistance programs and connect people who need help paying for their prescription medications with organizations offering it.
How does Nexium Work?
Imagine your stomach has tiny “acid pumps” that release acid to help digest food. Sometimes, these pumps produce too much acid, which can splash up into the esophagus (the tube connecting the mouth to the stomach) and cause heartburn or damage.
Nexium works by turning off some of these acid pumps, which reduces the amount of acid produced. Less acid means less irritation, so symptoms like heartburn and pain decrease, damaged areas in the stomach and esophagus can heal more effectively, and future issues like ulcers or esophagus damage can be prevented.
