What Is Mytesi?

Mytesi (crofelemer) is a botanical drug used to treat diarrhea occurring as a side effect of protease inhibitors and other medications taken by people living with HIV. It may also be prescribed for people with inflammatory bowel diseases. It is made from the latex, called “dragon’s blood for its bright red color, produced by the South American Croton lechleri tree.

Mytesi comes in tablet form and is taken by mouth, with or without food, usually twice daily. It may take several months for Mytesi to reach its maximum effectiveness.

What Does Simplefill Provide?

Severe diarrhea is more than an annoyance. It can be a debilitating condition that causes dehydration, electrolyte imbalances, nutritional deficiencies, and can have a significant negative impact on one’s social and professional activities. When severe diarrhea is a side effect of medication, it may be necessary to discontinue the medication. Stress tends to exacerbate the symptoms of any disease, and not being able to afford an uninterrupted supply of essential medications is certainly stressful.

How Does Mytesi Work?

Mytesi reduces the number of watery stools by blocking two unrelated chloride channels in the gut. This reduces the chloride ions excreted, which has the effect of reducing intestinal fluid secretion and preventing water and sodium ions from entering the intestines. 

How to Get Mytesi Prescription Assistance

We specifically designed our process to make it as easy as possible to get the prescription assistance you need. The only other thing required of you is your participation in a brief telephone interview with one of our patient advocates.
