What is Lantus?

Lantus (insulin glargine) is a long-acting insulin prescribed for adults with type 2 diabetes. It is also used in the treatment of adults and children age six and older who have type 1 diabetes. Long-acting insulin may be the right choice for someone who doesn’t want to have to take insulin before every meal.

Lantus is administered once daily by subcutaneous injection. It usually takes effect within an hour and will continue to work for up to 24 hours.

What Does Simplefill Provide?

Diabetes can cause serious complications, such as peripheral neuropathy, vision loss, vascular problems that can result in amputations, heart disease, hearing loss, kidney failure, and more. Poor blood sugar control increases the likelihood of such complications and makes it vitally important to have an uninterrupted supply of insulin to manage the disease. However, far too many diabetics live with the stress of struggling to pay for costly medications like Lantus.

Simplefill can alleviate the financial stress that comes from having a potentially life-threatening chronic disease requiring daily treatment. We do that by making people aware that help is available. Our goal is to connect those who need prescription assistance with the programs offering it.

How does Lantus Work?

Lantus is a human insulin analog created through recombinant DNA technology. A harmless laboratory strain of e-coli serves as the production organism. It lowers blood glucose levels in the same way that insulin produced in the human pancreas works, by reducing the amount of glucose produced in the liver and increasing the absorption of glucose by fat and skeletal muscle.
