What Is Jublia?

Jublia (efinaconazole) is prescribed for adults and children who are at least six years old for the treatment of mild to moderate fungal infections of the toenails.

It is a topical solution for use on toenails and the surrounding skin only. It must be applied to clean, dry toenails, cuticles, and the surrounding skin once daily for 48 weeks using the brush applicator that comes with the bottle.

Discontinuing the use of Jublia before the full 48-week course of treatment is completed can result in the recurrence of the fungal infection.

What Does Simplefill Provide?

Depending on the number of toenails infected, the full retail cost of enough Jublia for 48 weeks of treatment could run into thousands of dollars, which could put it out of reach for some people. However, left untreated, or if treatment is discontinued prematurely, toenail fungus can spread to the skin of the entire foot, causing athlete’s foot. Athlete’s foot symptoms include itchy, red, and cracked skin and can cause great discomfort.

Clearly, it’s important for people suffering from fungal infections of the toenails to maintain an uninterrupted supply of Jublia for the full 48 weeks of treatment. But given Jublia’s high cost, even patients with prescription coverage can find their high out-of-pocket expenses burdensome.

There are patient assistance programs that can make Jublia much more affordable for eligible patients—if they know about them, that is. Many people don’t. That’s why Simplefill works so hard to raise awareness of patient assistance programs and to connect eligible individuals to the patient assistance programs that can help them.

How Does Jublia Work?

Jublia blocks the production of fungal lanosterol 13a-demethylase, an enzyme that is required for the production of ergosterol, an important component of fungal cell walls. Without ergosterol, the fungal cells cannot reproduce and eventually will die off. But it typically takes about 11 months of treatment for that to happen.
