What Is Carac?

Carac (fluorouracil) is classified as a dermatologic drug and is prescribed for adults for the treatment of actinic (solar) keratosis and superficial basal cell carcinoma. These skin conditions are the result of excessive exposure to sunlight, including sunburns that occurred years earlier.

Carac comes in the form of a cream that is applied in a thin film to actinic keratosis skin lesions once daily ten minutes after the area has been washed, rinsed, and dried. If Carac is applied using the fingertips, it’s important to wash the hands thoroughly immediately afterward.

Carac can be used, as tolerated, for up to four weeks.

What Does Simplefill Provide?

High U.S. prescription costs can put Carac beyond the reach of many who are uninsured or underinsured. Left untreated, basal cell carcinoma can spread to lymph nodes, bones, bone marrow, or vital organs, such as the lungs. Knowing that, patients who can’t afford Carac will likely sacrifice other necessities to pay for it if they are unaware of the existence of prescription assistance programs that can help them.

Simplefill tries to prevent such situations by raising awareness of prescription assistance options and connecting people who need prescription assistance with the programs that offer it.

How Does Carac Work?

Carac is classified as an antimetabolite medication. It blocks the growth of fast-growing abnormal skin cells by interfering with the synthesis of DNA and the formation of RNA, which are essential for cell division and growth.

How to Get Carac Prescription Assistance

For Simplefill to be able to get you the prescription assistance you’re seeking, you first need to become a Simplefill member. This is easily done by applying online or by calling 1(877)386-0206. There’s only one more thing you must do—take part in a telephone interview with one of our patient advocates and answer a few questions to substantiate your need and eligibility for prescription assistance.

Once you are done with the interview, we’ll handle everything else.

We’ll use your responses to the interview questions to establish your Simplefill member profile. That’s what will give us the basis for comparing your circumstances to the eligibility criteria of the various Carac prescription assistance options and identifying the best ones for us to apply to on your behalf. We’ll not only prepare and submit your applications; we’ll also take care of getting you enrolled when you’ve been accepted.

In the months and years to come, we’ll monitor your prescription assistance situation. And, if there are changes to your medical treatment, we’ll connect you with prescription assistance for any new medications prescribed for you.

With Simplefill by your side, you’ll have no further worries about not being able to pay for your Carac or any other medications you need.
