What is Alecensa?

Alecensa (alectinib) is a targeted cancer therapy prescribed for adults with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) that is anaplastic lymphoma kinase-positive (ALK-positive), meaning that the patient has a genetic alteration involving the ALK gene, which can drive the growth and spread of cancer cells. It is often used in patients whose disease has progressed on another ALK inhibitor therapy or who were intolerant to it.

Alecensa comes in capsule form and is taken twice a day with food.

What Does Simplefill Provide?

The prognosis for ALK-positive NSCLC can vary based on factors like the stage the cancer has reached at the time it is diagnosed and how well it responds to treatment. But in general, a diagnosis of lung cancer causes great stress for patients and their loved ones. How frustrating and stressful it must be when facing the likelihood of disease progression to know there are medications that could potentially improve one’s prognosis but are out of reach due to their high cost.

Simplefill doesn’t think you should have to sacrifice other essentials to pay for the medications you need to treat a serious disease like cancer when we know that patient assistance is available. There’s a woeful lack of awareness of the existence of patient assistance programs—an unfortunate situation we are helping to correct. We’re dedicated to spreading the word about patient assistance. We’re also committed to bridging the gap between those who need help with the cost of vital medications and the sources offering patient assistance.

How does Alecensa Work?

Alecensa works by blocking the ALK protein in cancer cells. By inhibiting this protein, Alecensa helps to slow down or stop the growth and spread of cancer cells. The precision targeting of specific genetic changes in cancer cells allows more effective and tailored treatment strategies for patients with ALK-positive NSCLC. Precision treatment like this can lead to better treatment outcomes and fewer side effects compared to traditional chemotherapy.
