What Is Ontruzant?
Ontruzant (Trastuzumab) is prescribed, usually along with a chemotherapy drug, to treat HER2-positive metastatic breast or stomach cancer. Ontruzant is a monoclonal antibody that stimulates an immune system response that attacks HER2 receptors. Cancers that are not related to an overabundance of the HER2 gene will not respond to Ontruzant.
Ontruzant is administered through intravenous infusion by a medical professional in a health care setting.

How Does Ontruzant Work?
The HER2 receptors produced by HER2 genes are proteins that control the growth and multiplication of healthy cells through a process called mitosis. Receptor overexpression is a condition in which there are too many HER2 receptors, which takes the brakes off mitosis so that cells multiply too quickly and form tumors. Ontruzant binds with HER2 receptors, triggering an immune response that attacks those receptors and puts the brakes back on mitosis.
