What Is Ciprodex?
Ciprodex combines two drugs, ciprofloxacin and dexamethasone, as a treatment for acute otitis media (middle ear infections) in children over the age of six months with surgically placed tympanostomy tubes, more commonly known as ear tubes. It is also prescribed for acute otitis extrema (outer ear canal infections). It is intended only for the treatment of bacterial (not fungal or viral) infections.
The typical dosage of Ciprodex ear drops is four drops in the affected ear twice daily. Most infections will clear up within seven days.

Ciprofloxacin blocks the chemicals that are essential to the ability of bacteria to reproduce and repair themselves. Dexamethasone reduces inflammation. Together, they decrease the swelling and kill the bacteria that caused the infection.
