What is Epclusa?
Epclusa (sofosbuvir/velpatasvir) is used to treat chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection in adults and children aged six and up (or who weigh at least 17 kilograms, or about 37 pounds). It has proven to be effective in treating all six major genotypes of the hepatitis C virus.
Whether or not a patient is a good candidate for Epclusa also depends on the presence or absence of cirrhosis. It’s typically prescribed for patients with no cirrhosis or with compensated cirrhosis. However, in some cases it is prescribed for patients with decompensated cirrhosis, typically in combination with ribavirin, another antiviral drug.
Epclusa comes in tablet form and is taken once daily, with or without food, typically for 12 weeks.
What Does Simplefill Provide?
Chronic hepatitis C can lead to such serious complications as liver cirrhosis, liver failure, and liver cancer. But effective treatment earlier in the course of the disease can prevent that in most cases. Being able to afford medications like Epclusa can make the difference between a cure and debilitating, potentially life-threatening illness.
At Simplefill, we find it truly disturbing that the high cost of essential prescription drugs can prevent people from obtaining the medications they need to treat chronic hepatitis C and other serious diseases. The irony is that assistance with the cost of many prescription medicines is available, but many who need such help aren’t aware that it exists. Simplefill’s mission is to close the gap between those who need patient assistance and the programs and organizations that can provide it.
How Does Epclusa Work?
Epclusa is a combination of two antiviral drugs, sofosbuvir and velpatasvir. Sofosbuvir works by blocking the enzyme that the hepatitis C virus needs to replicate its RNA. Velpatasvir works by interfering with a protein the virus uses to replicate itself and assemble new virus particles. Together, the two drugs act to drastically reduce the viral load in most patients, potentially clearing the virus from the body and curing the infection. (Antiviral medications like Epclusa have a cure rate of about 90%.)
How to get Prescription Assistance
To obtain the assistance you’re seeking, you’ll first need to become a Simplefill member. This is a simple matter of applying online or calling us at 1(877)386-0206. Shortly after your first contact with Simplefill, you’ll be called by one of our patient advocates, who will ask you some questions about your medical condition, financial circumstances, and insurance status.
From that point on, nothing else is needed from you. We’ll take care of the paperwork and everything else.
We’ll use the information you gave the patient advocate to develop your Simplefill member profile. Comparing your profile to available Epclusa assistance programs, we’ll determine which of them you should qualify for. We’ll prepare and submit applications to those programs on your behalf and get you enrolled upon approval.
Once you’re receiving your Epclusa at the lowest possible cost, we’ll make sure you continue to do so and always have an uninterrupted supply. When you alert us to changes in your treatment plan, income, or insurance status, we’ll update your profile accordingly. And when new prescription medications are added to your regimen, we’ll start looking for patient assistance to minimize what you will have to pay for them.
It won’t be long before you start wondering how you ever got along without us!
