What Is Uptravi?
Uptravi (selexipag) is prescribed for adults with pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH)—high blood pressure in the arteries of the lungs. It primarily affects the small pulmonary arterioles. PAH is also known as Group 1 pulmonary hypertension. Uptravi can slow disease progression and prevent PAH-related hospitalizations.
Uptravi tablets come in a variety of strengths from 200 to 1600 micrograms. Patients typically are started on the lowest dose, taking 1 200-microgram tablet twice daily, in the morning and again in the afternoon.
During the initial adjustment phase, your healthcare professional will titrate your dose upward until you reach the optimum therapeutic level. That’s the level that provides the greatest benefit without triggering unpleasant side effects.
Uptavi can also be administered as an intravenous infusion by a healthcare professional.
What Does Simplefill Provide?
PAH is a progressive disease that can eventually lead to heart failure. Living with a life-threatening chronic illness is nothing, if not stressful. That stress can be compounded by the fact that Uptravi is a very costly drug. The average retail price for a one-month supply of 200-microgram tablets is more than $15,000. Even patients with prescription coverage can find their out-of-pocket costs unaffordable.
There are, however, patient assistance programs that can dramatically reduce the cost of Uptravi, though that may not be widely known. We have taken on the challenge of raising public awareness of the existence of patient assistance programs for Uptravi and other expensive prescription medications. And we have made it our mission to provide a vital bridge between those who need such patient assistance and the programs and organizations that can provide it.
How Does Uptravi Work?
Uptravi is classified as an oral prostacyclin receptor (IP receptor) agonist. It works by dilating (widening) the blood vessels that carry oxygen to the lungs.
