What is Forteo?

Forteo (recombinant teriparatide) is prescribed for men and postmenopausal women at high risk for fractures due to osteoporosis caused by prolonged use of glucocorticoid medications. Forteo is also prescribed for people with a history of fractures or who have other osteoporosis-related risk factors. It is most effective in preventing hip fractures.

Forteo is administered by daily self-injection using a preloaded delivery device that makes the process relatively easy. The device contains 28 daily doses and must be kept under refrigeration at all times, other than when it is being used to inject a premeasured dose of Forteo.

What Does Simplefill Provide?

Living with the knowledge that you are at high risk for hip fracture can be pretty stressful, especially for older individuals who could face the prospect of a lengthy convalescence. That burden is only made worse by worrying about being able to afford the Forteo you’re counting on to help keep you on your feet.

Simplefill aims to relieve our members of the stress caused by high U.S. prescription drug costs. Think of us as a bridge between people who need help paying for their Forteo and the programs and organizations that offer it.

How does Forteo Work?

Osteoporosis is the result of an imbalance in the process through which the body’s osteoblasts produce new bone cells and osteoclasts absorb aged bone cells.

Teriparatide has been in use for nearly two decades to stimulate bone growth and increase bone density. Forteo’s recombinant teriparatide duplicates part of the DNA chain of human parathyroid hormone (PTH). Injecting it stimulates the production of osteoblasts at a pace that exceeds the production of osteoclasts, thus tipping the balance in favor of bone growth.
