What is Forteo?
Forteo (recombinant teriparatide) is prescribed for men and postmenopausal women at high risk for fractures due to osteoporosis caused by prolonged use of glucocorticoid medications. Forteo is also prescribed for people with a history of fractures or who have other osteoporosis-related risk factors. It is most effective in preventing hip fractures.
Forteo is administered by daily self-injection using a preloaded delivery device that makes the process relatively easy. The device contains 28 daily doses and must be kept under refrigeration at all times, other than when it is being used to inject a premeasured dose of Forteo.
